THE TRUTH ABOUT FAILURE

Feeling like you’re constantly failing? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Whether it’s not getting the client for your business, not landing the job you wanted, or you’re struggling in a relationship…life can feel like one failure after another.

But here’s the truth

Failure is the default setting in life

Hear me out

Take the world of sports, where even the GOATs frequently miss the mark:

– Basketball 🏀 An elite three-point shooter makes 40% of their shots. This means they miss 60% of the time. Yes, most of their attempts don’t succeed.

– Baseball ⚾ A top-tier batter with a .3000 average gets a hit in roughly 30% of their at-bats. This means they fail more than 70% of the time.

– Football/Soccer (you pick) ⚽ Real Madrid is celebrated for their record 14 Champions League titles. But they’ve participated in around 60 editions, meaning they’ve lost far more times than they’ve won.

What does that tell you?

Failure is normal. It is accepted.

The best of the best fail more than they ever succeed.

So no matter who you are…you’re gonna fail more than you succeed.

But if the failures got you down and the L’s are getting to you

And you’re trying to figure out how to get a grip on them

Here are 3 steps that might help with normalizing failure:

  1. ACCEPT – Chill Out & Take It In

Know that it’s okay to feel down. We’re all humans here, not robots.

Do what you need to do. if you wanna be alone, be alone. If you wanna call a friend, call a friend. If you wanna eat ice cream, eat ice cream (in moderation please LOL).

The process is messy, none of this is meant to be neat and perfect. But don’t stay down for too long – you know that good old saying from Rocky.

2. ANALYZE – Put Your Analyst or Critic Hat On

Now that you’ve processed everything, it’s time to be a sports analyst or movie critic – you get to choose!

Remember when you watched a movie, walked out of the cinema and chatted with your friend about what you liked and didn’t like OR when you watched your favorite sports game and discussed what your team did well in and didn’t do well in.

Now imagine your experience as a sports game or movie…and it’s your turn to assess it. Step into the shoes of the analyst or the critic!

Some questions to help you analyze and critique:

  1. What was going on internally as I experienced that – think about your mindset, thought patterns and beliefs?
  2. What were the external factors outside of my control that played a part in this experience?
  3. What can I add or do more of moving forward?
  4. What must I subtract or do less of moving forward?

3. ACT – Let Your Journey Continue

It’s time to start moving forward, but here’s the catch: Instead of aiming for instant success, focus on making small improvements step by step.

Take what you’ve learned from being the critic or the analyst, and apply those lessons to act smarter and better.

Think of it like building a staircase to your goals. Each step might not launch you to the top right away, but they add up over time.

Progress isn’t smooth and success isn’t guaranteed, there’s always a high chance you fail again.

But as long as you keep moving forward, trust that success will eventually come in due time.

Remember, failure and challenges always come before success…just check the dictionary!
